CHARTER OF THE ANCIENTS

INTRODUCTION

We are a multi-game guild that spans Dark Age of Camelot, World or Warcraft, and Everquest II. Any guild in these games that are associated with The Ancients, our web site, and our forum have adopted our Mission, this Charter, and our Rules.

What can this guild give ME vs. What I would like to offer this guild? To hang out with some older folks who wanted to relax and have fun is why many have joined The Ancients.

People joined for fun...simply that! What is clear to me, from reading here on these boards and listening to others in this guild, is that most would like to maintain what this guild is all about .... lighthearted fun.

Some may think we have no structure. We have structure and we have a lot of expectations for our members:

We are lighthearted about what we do. On our way towards greater heights we expect to have fun.

We expect our guild members to take responsibility for their fun and their enjoyment vs. placing all responsibility on a few select people.

To have the attitude of: What can I offer to this guild vs. What can I take from this guild.

Those who cannot stand this kind of structure will move on and those in the guild that may find they do not like this type of structure will move on and that is ok. It has nothing to do with being expendable but understanding that all of us have different expectations.

Our challenge as a guild, IS upholding the basics of why we started in the first place. We will accomplish many fun and amazing goals. We ALREADY have and we are doing so w/o rigid structure.

Another challenge for each of us in The Ancients is - How we respond to each other when dealing with something uncomfortable, which will happen as we have many members.

This is an adult group of people. It does not mean we will always act like adults. It does not mean that we need to accept rude and nasty behavior either. On the contrary - we will not.

It is more important how we respond to rude and nasty people vs. how they respond or how they are treating us. Now, we can either drop down to a grumps level and accomplish nothing and worsen the situation or we can respond in an adult way. We can also forgive that grump … hoping that when we have a grumpy day others will be as forgiving.

In guild and out of guild, each of us represents the whole.

If you need rigid structure and constant non-stop action…there are guilds here on  that will meet those gaming needs. I would encourage you to move on or to look elsewhere as I for one would hate if our members stayed in a guild they were unhappy with.

We each need to figure out what it is we want in these silly games vs. placing all that responsibility on our guild mates to provide entertainment.

The responsibility is on YOUR shoulders.

ON POWER LEVELING,  BEGGING, AND CRAFTING

No Begging, (this includes for money, items, and/or power leveling).

For money and items that is self-explanatory. It applies also to power leveling, which includes expecting or begging guild members to PL individuals through a trade or level.

There is no difference between someone expecting to be PL'd (exp) vs. someone expecting that the guild PL a trade.

You level (exp) and craft because they are things you enjoy doing personally without expecting members to provide for you.

You level your characters because you enjoy leveling. You level your characters because in order to play the high end game you need to. Most want to and the higher your character is the better you are able to help others accomplish those high-end goals.

You level your trade because you enjoy crafting. If it is to make armor for our guild - Great! If it is because you enjoy crafting - Great! You level your trade because it helps yourself and others reach goals more effectively.

Each gives greater reward as you go higher. Each contributes to the strength of a group or person. Both can be extremely frustrating at times.

If you are not enjoying crafting because it becomes to hard to support…then stop and start experiencing or exploring or whatever. =) If you do not enjoy the experience grind, then stop and chat or start a craft.

Our members offer items for salvage.
Our members share their cash with individuals
Our members help each other in many areas – experience in level or trades

We give freely because it is NOT begged for nor is it expected.

Nothing more should be expected of guild members. There is nothing wrong with hoping others will help you... there is something wrong with expecting an d demanding others to help.

There is a great satisfaction with crafting and leveling that comes from knowing you did it yourself...the help given/donated is just a lovely bonus. =)

NO ABUSIVE LANGUAGE (this includes swearing) IN GUILD CHAT OR ELSEWHERE and NO BEING RUDE OR NASTY TO OTHERS.

Two very simple but absolute rules we have here in The Ancients are that we ask for common sense and responsibility for what is shared in guild and to be considerate of others if they are not as comfortable with certain subjects which is indeed relative to many.

If our members want to be a bit more graphic with their dislikes or likes we ask that you take it to tells and keep it personal. Does this mean we are not sometimes a bit naughty? Not at all! We are indeed, but we try to be considerate of others.

As mentioned above rudeness will not be tolerated, forgiven yes. Tolerated no.

HAVE FUN!

Self-Explanatory!! :P

PS. Thank you to all who encouraged a charter and I would like to thank those who offered input to this post as well as helpful edits. You know who are!

We The Ancients warmly welcome YOU!
